In its ‘Starlight 3’ concert series, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and the exceptional conductor Dimitris Botinis take us to a captivating musical journey featuring Astor Piazzolla's ‘Four Seasons of Buenos Aires’ and Felix Mendelssohn's Third Symphony.
The spotlight will shine on the South Korean violinist Soyoung Yoon, whose startling virtuosity and terrific temperament promise to elevate Piazzola’s tango-inspired compositions to new heights. Praised for her ‘highly disciplined performances’, Yoon has won several international competitions and has performed as soloist with leading orchestras such as the Czech National Symphony and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, whilst her recordings also comprise Piazzolla’s ‘Four Seasons’.
Embodying a rich tapestry of emotions and cultural influences, from the sultry streets of Buenos Aires to Mendelssohn's Symphony no. 3 evoking Scottish landscapes, the CySO invites you to enjoy this enchanting programme.

About the event:
Two classical quintets, the Quintus Ensemble and the Chamber Fusion Quintet unite to underline global character of traditional Cypriot music, guided by the arrangements of Neoklis Neophytides.
Traditional melodies that include the wedding cycle (“Wedding Song”, “The Bride and Groom dance”), the dance cycle (“The Dance of the Sickle”, “Mandra”, “Karotseris”), and sog cycle (“My basil”, “Red goat”, “Four plus four”, “Woman of Tilliria”) intertwine seamlessly with Cypriot poetry by Dimitris Lipertis, Michalis Pashiardis, and Costas Montis, masterfully set to music by Cypriot composers such as Achilleas Lympouridis, Vasos Argyridis, Costas Kakoyiannis, and Evagoras Karageorgis.
The ten professional Cypriot musicians are accompanied by singers Anna Aristideou and Tefkros Neocleous.

About the event:
It is a musical performance of contemporary scholarly music consisting of works by composer George K. Papageorgiou and recitation of poems from the collection "The Flowers of Evil" by Charles Baudelaire. The musical work is written for a small orchestral ensemble (flute, clarinet, violin, cello, double bass, piano and percussion).
The artistic fulfillment is underwritten by the Chronos Contemporary Music Ensemble, consisting of leading musicians of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and the acclaimed actor Fotis Apostolidis, in the recitation of the poems.

The five-piece indie/ alternative rock band presents its first album on the stage of the Nicosia Municipal Theatre. Guitars, violins, bass and drums blend to create atmospheric rock sounds with metal elements. Одинокому дядюшке Петсону в день его рождения заботливые соседки подарили славного голосистого петуха Юсси и озорного говорящего котенка Финдуса. Вот чудеса!
Но одного умения говорить недостаточно. И вот однажды маленький Финдус сказал Юсси такое, что тот обиделся и замолчал. Грустно сделалось в доме дядюшки Петсона. Тоскливо стало на душе у Финдуса, от которого отвернулись все, даже соседский бык Матадор. И неизвестно, чем обернулись бы для героев спектакля эти неприятности, если бы… Но погодите, погодите! О том, что произойдет дальше, вы непременно узнаете, когда окажетесь в начале сказки и станете участниками неожиданной, захватывающей и, пожалуй, даже волшебной истории со счастливым финалом.

About the event:
The Nicosia International Festival... never ends and AKEL, honouring the great composer Michalis Christodoulides, are organising the concert "On the edges of the coast at the end of the world", dedicated to Cypriot poetry. The concert includes songs from the Akritikos Circle of the 11th and 12th centuries, the love rhymes of the 16th century and songs from today's poetry. The backbone of this concert is the Cypriot dialect as a separate and special part of the Greek language.
